Nourished on old folk songs, Appalachian Karma is the folk/rock project of the french songwriter Pierre SOUQ (Paris, 2008). Known as a singer guitarist and banjo player in Paris, he follows in American Primitivism footsteps to compose folk songs and murder ballads, evoking the american spirits he does love (ghosts, poets, animals, indians, slaves, cowboys) with voices and instruments.

His influences are Skip James, Son House, Leadbelly, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, The Sixteen Horsepower, Wovan Hand, Mark Lanegan, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, etc., and his texts draw worlds from the Transcendentalist Movement (Dickinson, Emerson, Muir, Thoreau, Whitman, etc.).

Also tied to history and myths, he tells the stories of characters like Anne Bonny, Abraham Lincoln, Jeremiah Johnson, Jim Crow, Saint John Baptist, The Molly Maguires, etc.. Appalachian Karma finished his third album (November, 2012), “Transcendentalism”, referring to the american literature and to the german idealism.

In 2013, Appalachian Karma decide to work on a duo performance : Pierre Souq (vocals, guitar, banjo, harmonica) and David Picouet-Duny (guitars, choirs).
