Laura Angyal

Hungarian born-New York based vocalist, composer and lyricist Laura Angyal brings a smoky, buttery timbre while incorporating the intensity of bebop, the raw authenticity of blues and a playful, fearless approach to melodic improvisation.
Her sources are both traditional and contemporary.A strong harmonic awareness makes her interpretation of jazz standards both unique and subtle.
Influenced by Surrealists and Impressionist artists, her original compositions and improvisations are imbued with visual and evocative quality that creates images, textures and impressions with words and music.
She has appeared in such venues as Smoke, Minton's, Kitano’s, Cleopatra’s Needle, The Garage, Caffe Vivaldi, Whynot Jazz Room, New York Hungarian House in New York City, Charity Jazz Club in Rome and in Hungary in the “Valley of Arts”, Budapest Jazz Club, EST Café among many others.
Ms. Angyal is a recent graduate of New York City's prestigious school: The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music.
As a journalist she has contributed reviews to Jazzma and Dining Guide Hungary.
She has recently joined the independent acting company Pilvax Players in New York City for a theatre project which will debut in the fall of 2015. Ms. Angyal is honored to be the music director and the vocal coach of the project.
Currently she's been performing in New York City area and preparing for the release of her debut album of her original compositions.
