Prof. Klare: The Changing Parameters of Energy Security

Historically, the field of energy security was largely devoted to a single problem: ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of oil from the Middle East to the major OECD economies. In more recent years, the field was broadened to include concern over the uninterrupted delivery of natural gas from Russia and Central Asia to Europe. Today, we are witnessing a veritable explosion in the field of energy security as new concerns, new suppliers, new recipients, new forms of energy and new extractive technologies enter the picture.
