Auftakt der ZEITGESCHICHTEN gatherings mit Vazira Zamindar und Shahram Khosravi

Als komplementäre Veranstaltungsreihe zur Ausstellung ZEITGESCHICHTEN bringen die ZEITGESCHICHTEN gatherings Denker_innen verschiedener Disziplinen und Perspektiven zusammen, um über mehrere Monate hinweg Zeitvorstellungen und Modi zeitlicher Erfahrungen zu diskutieren. Im Zentrum stehen dabei zum einen Alternativen zum linearen Zeitkonzept und dem ihm innewohnenden Fortschrittsgedanken, zum anderen die Diskussion darüber, wie die Logik von Linearität und Zeitnormierung eingesetzt wird, um Gleichheit, soziale und ökologische Gerechtigkeit zu verhindern. Was wäre, wenn wir anerkennen würden, dass es immer ein Dort im Hier und ein Dann im Jetzt gibt? Könnten wir „kal“* leben, wenn gestern morgen ist, und „hāl“**, wenn die Gegenwart mit der Stimmung des Augenblicks verschmilzt? Und würde diese erweiterte Gegenwart es ermöglichen, verheerende Vorstellungen von Fortschritt durch ein Paradigma der Regeneration zu ersetzen?

Vazira Zamindar (Historikerin, Brown University): Time of Love
When the many modalities of telling stories of the past, of remembering, of experiencing the past, are forced into the empty homogeneous time of history as a quick translation or pedagogic exercise for producing modern forward-thinking consciousness, what happens to our capacity to cohabit? What happens to our capacity to love? In other words, can love stories, with all their longing, draw us gently towards other political imaginaries than those sutured to history?

Shahram Khosravi (Anthropologe, Stockholm University): Waiting means Seeing
While we all wait, we do not wait in the same way and the consequences of waiting are different depending on the forms of our vulnerabilities. The unceasing bordering practices institutionalize delays and keep people waiting for a job, a visa, asylum, or access to the city. This talk will focus on the implications of temporal bordering for migrants who are exposed to constant delaying and prolonged waiting. However, waiting can also be a wakeful navigation through material struggles in the present and ‘directing one’s mind toward’ the not-yet in daily practice. Like the act of citizenship, the act of waiting is a constant struggle to have the right to participate.
